Inputs

  • A complete 48-bit MAC address (colon, dash, dot, or no separator)

Outputs

  • Vendor / organization name
  • 24-bit OUI prefix (first 6 hexadecimal digits)
  • Unicast, locally administered, multicast, broadcast, and all-zero address classification

Use Cases

  • Identifying unknown devices on an L2 segment
  • Spot-checking ARP / LLDP output during onboarding
  • Auditing inventory for a specific vendor footprint

Limitations

  • Snapshot-based; very recent OUI assignments may not be reflected
  • No hardware vendor attribution for locally administered, multicast, broadcast, or all-zero addresses; the local bit does not prove randomization
